All of our offered Innotek and Petsafe pet containment systems come with 500 feet of 20 gauge that can be enough for the needs. But in case owners have wider backyard or garden, every kit that owners are going to buy comes complete with all the needed things to expand the coverage area. Take note that each electronic pet containment kit comes with a 500 feet of 20 gauge wire, 50 marker flags and two wire splices.

Should I Use 18-gauge or 20-gauge wire?

Pet containment system manufacturers recommend using 20 gauge wire with their systems because the systems are designed to be used with 20-gauge wire. We ship all of our containment systems with Premium, Heavy-duty, 20 Gauge Wire. If owners want an additional 500ft. of 18-Gauge with the system, we offer a WIREUPGRADE option, which can be purchased with any containment system. Please see pet containment wire guide below to determine the proper gauge of wire for the use. Remember, 18 gauge wire cannot be purchased from the local pet store or pe supply catalog.

Use 20-Gauge if:
» For smooth, loose soil or clay
» If laying the wire next to a fence
» If yard has few trees or vegetation.

Use 18-Gauge if:
» Rocky soil
» If installing the wire above ground
» If yard has many trees

Use Only Burial Approved Boundary Wire

Choose only wires that are burial approved so that the pet containment system will work better and longer. And when buying a set of wires, always look for Polyurethane Coated wire with solid copper core for durability.
